We had a brief talk with actor and model Carlos Villar. We were immediately drawn into knowing him better after we had the pleasure to be one of the first blogs to release his latest work for Zphela. The shoot was very good and his face and body full of expression. We thought immediately there is a nice story behind this guy and a mind we couldn’t wait to explore! Enjoy the interview below, some great photos from his recent collaboration with photographer Joel Endemano and a special, behind the scenes video from the shoot.

Hello Carlos, can you tell us about yourself?
Such a broad question! I feel I should answer with a joke, but don’t got one. I’d tell you this much, I love to dance, salsa casino is my style, dancing since I was a little boy growing up in Cuba. I am very passionate about life. I speak Spanish fluently, came to the states and studied acting. My first acting job was playing the title role of Hamlet in a film version of the famous play by William Shakespeare… what a privilege (he smiles). I model, I love classic films and photography, I paint and love the sunlight. I am two years vegan as in 2016 and last week was my fist time trying rollerblading!
How long have you been modelling, and how did you get started?
I have been modelling on and off for roughly four years. I take advantage every time I get the opportunity to model because my acting career really takes over my time. Besides, I really enjoy it, it’s almost like playing sports. I started back in LA as a hobby while I was going to acting school. Being in front of the camera really helped shape my personality and find my brand as a young actor and model. Besides, I discovered that while modelling I could also use my acting and dance skills, it all came together then.
What is your greatest accomplishment as a model so far?
Zphela! Brandon Donaldson! Brandon loved a shot I did years ago and that inspired him to hopefully one day make me one of his Zphela models. Now we have meet half way here in Miami and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of this amazing company and working with such dedicated man. I am Zphela and that means much more that what meets the eye. Accomplishment for sure.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Tough, cuz I am a dreamer! But I would love to star in a Hollywood film. I don’t think it’s impossible, nothing really is. If you believe you can fly. Just have to work hard and be prepared for when the opportunity meets your way. But I like to leave it to the universe. I put it out there, out loud and clear, now let’s keep on working.
What is your dream job or campaign you would like to work on?
My dream job is playing a Disney prince, in a Disney film… You said dream ok! (He laughs) I like companies that stand for something more than themselves. I feel that has to be the purposes of being hot or successful or having a following- is to make changes, positive changes in the world. That’s how I go about my craft. Tom Ford is a man I admire. I would love to be the face of a Tom Ford campaign or film. He has vision and art and is an exquisite filmmaker in my opinion. That would also be one of my dream jobs: to work with Tom Ford.
Time to talk underwear! How often do you buy underwear?
Hum… Underwear is like dates, when you find a real good one you don’t need to keep on looking! I’d say every year. I’m not being a good advocate for underwear buyers here, to be honest, oops. I like the undies I have and I wear them till the end. I guess I am a long term relationship kinda guy.
What is your favourite style of underwear and why?
My favourite only style is briefs, hip briefs really. I just don’t like all that extra fabric on me. The less the better, wouldn’t you agree? (He smiles)
Do you have a favourite underwear brand?
Yeah, my favourite has to be 2(x)ist. They just make that kind I really like. Sport brand, edgy, great fit, not too much fabric. But I hear of this new brand I am loving and is Zphela, not to advertise but really, when it comes to luxury and comfort Z has it. Plus Zphela also has those bold colours I love, yellow and hot pink be my favourites. But nothing like my whites though… OK TMI!
In your estimation, what makes a great pair of underwear?
It just has to be hot. Comfortable, yes. But has to make you feel you are owing it. It has to elevate you some how.
