As of yesterday Grindr launched the grindr store selling mens clothing, underwear and swimwear! For those of you not familiar with Grindr, it is he most popular gay dating app where users are able to find and meet others sorted by distance of their location. Before we deep into what they offer to customers let us say that all proceeds will benefit Athlete Ally, a non-profit organisation which fights against homophobia and transphobia in sports.
Grindr’s first collection is called Varsity and comprises clothing (separated in tops and bottoms!) but also swimwear in two styles and one style of jockstraps. The app has collaborated with Print All Over Me who manufactures the garments on demand. PAOM is a clothing store which collaborates with artist who design prints. Offering their collection on demand means that the garments are first ordered and then manufactured, which also means you may have to wait up to six weeks for delivery.
The jockstraps Grindr offers come in one style and two colours: navy blue and yello. They feature an elasticated waistband with a “HARDER” patch at the centre and a contour pouch made from polyester with a “G” print on it. The swimwear available comes in two styles: swimbriefs and swim shorts. The briefs are in a low rice cut featuring a straight cut front and elasticated waist and come in two colourways: Score Red and Muscle Camo. The swimshorts are in a high rise, square cut featuring rounded, retro style sides and elasticated waist with drawstrings. They come in three colourways: Score Red, Muscle Camo and Navy.
The Varsity collection is on the sporty side with classic styles in fresh designs. We would definitely like to see more underwear but maybe this is something Grindr holds for the future. It is artistic, modern and masculine.
