2021 was another strange and difficult year, full of ups and downs for not just the men’s underwear industry but for most individuals all around the globe. It has been a year where social media saw a surge in use, again, but almost all of them enforcing stricter rules, bans, shadow bans and other peculiar practices to try and “regulate” the use of them. Funny enough, social media are supposed to be a platform where the users create their content and select what they post and what they see. Unfortunately that is not the case with social media any more. We get forced to see all sorts of advertising and most of us in the men’s underwear industry get banned for showing too much skin. Unfortunately Facebook decided our official page was not complying with their guidelines and decided in a day to take it down altogether. Despite all our efforts to communicate with their support, we have not been given even the right to an appeal on their decision. Obviously, men posing in underwear and/or swimwear is something so bad for human kind that no one should be allowed to see on social media anymore. It is just sad that some people still see underwear as something separate from fashion, even though it has been a very important part of it for so long. We are not going to go down the homophobe route or make a comparison between photos showing women in lingerie and how much skin they show, but we cannot hide our frustration for being treated by Facebook in such a way. And as all of you know, we are not the only ones; many brands, shops, models and photographers have similar treatment by most social media. Shadow bans where posts only appear to a small fraction of followers, taking down notices, copyright claims and suspended accounts.
Nevertheless social media is still a way to get in touch with you, communicate and receive your feedback. We have already created a second Facebook Page which you are more than welcome to follow and our Instagram
Overall 2021 was one more year of growth for Men and Underwear and our most engaging social media account, that of Instagram is still alive and kicking, even though it has already received some “warnings”. Just to stay on the safe side though we have created a backup account there which you are more than welcome to follow as well! Instagram is by far, our most popular social media outlet followed by more than 84,000 people. Our posts on Instagram are about articles we published or about items we sell in Men and Underwear – The Shop. Among those were some re-posts of customers wearing underwear they bought from our shop as well as stories and news we featured in our Weekend Feast, a weekly column which pays tribute to other magazines and covers stories that we haven’t covered in Men and Underwear. Let’s find out which of the almost one thousand posts in 2021 were the ten most “liked”. They are all below, in descending order. A huge thank you to photographers, models, brands and all of you who shared your photos with us! Enjoy!

All post above feature that were published, first time, in 2021 on our Instagram account. Apart from all those, of course, there have been others that did equally well, if not better, but which have been published in previous years as well. There were images of items in our shop that were re-produced, came back in stock or were part of editorials featuring underwear from various collections. So, just to be fair the most popular post of the year was none of the above; it was the photo below of model Tomas photographed by Adrian C. Martin for Walking Jack!
